Key West: Margaritaville
Key West, Florida is an island and a city with the same name, in Monroe County, an island in the Florida Keys. Key West is the southernmost city in the United States and only 90 miles from Cuba’s shores. Filled with great resorts, Key West is popular due to its close proximity to Miami, and is a well-known cruise port, family travel destination, and a noted half way spot for trips to the Bahamas. Key West offers three boat ports, 2 airports, and many fabulous hotels and resorts. Key West offers tourists great shopping, restaurants, and a vibrant nightlife in the entire chain of islands (keys). In addition the famous Duval Street is the noted commercial district and home to several famous restaurants and bars, including Fogarty’s Restaurant, Sloppy Joes, and The Flying Monkey Bar, Rick’s Café, and Irish Kevin’s Bar. The area is named for William Pope Duval, the first territorial governor of Florida. On some nights Duval Street takes on a carnival atmosphere that lasts from dusk until dawn. They host a pub crawl known fondly as the “Duval Crawl”. Visitors from the cruise ships dock at the Hilton Harbor Complex, Mole Pier, or Mallory Pier are seen on Duval Street. On the southern end of the street you’ll find a beautiful Victorian mansion built in 1886, and on the northern end is Mallory Square. Some noted attractions are the Key West Butterfly and Nature Preserve, Ghosts and Legends of Key West, Dry Tortugas National Park, Conch Tour Train, and the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum. Another popular tour is the Trails of Margaritaville Tour, a tour in honor of Jimmy Buffett who spent years here.
