Richard Branson’s stunning private island, Makepeace, at Noosa on Australia’s Sunshine Coast just opened its doors for private lease for the first time. The natural heart shaped, 25 acre island was purchased by Branson in 2003 with the goal of turning it into an eco-retreat for his Virgin Airline staffers. The Balinese-style island retreat can accommodate up to 22 guests in either the Bali House or three other villas (bures). Island leasing starts at around $8,000 per night.
Makepeace: The Ultimate Private Luxury
Makepeace Island is located in the Noosa River with a design created for ultimate privacy. In announcing the news the island will be available to rent Branson said, “When neither Brett nor myself are visiting Makepeace, we will make the island and its facilities available for others to enjoy the tranquility of what is a very special place.” One of the goals in renting the luxury private retreat is to bring visitors to the area to boost the local economy which was hit hard in recent years. “Now I’m encouraging people to come and see this beautiful part of the world for themselves,” Branson said.

Stunning Balinese Tropical Island Style
Guests at Makepeace can take full advantage of spa facilities, tennis court, theatre, lagoon pool, large indoor bar, and office facilities. In addition, the Makepeace team will be on hand to offer suggestions on activities locally and on the island. Most guests renting the island are looking for relaxation and a place to escape and take it easy. The beautifully decorated retreat is designed to be calming, including the tranquil and beautiful volcanic boulder bathtubs, along with antiques and furniture from Java, Bali and other locations in Indonesia.
In tropical island style includes a 500,000 liter lagoon pool, beach areas and nature walks. The island also has a large two-story Balinese open aired wantilan, pavilion and spa.
