The French Open: The Most Prestigious Event in Tennis

You can still jet off to Paris for the final week of exciting Tennis at this year’s French Open held at Roland Garros.  Today, CNN reported that number one in the world Rafael Nadal fought hard to reach the third round of the tournament after a difficult and exciting bout  against Pablo Andujar. The 24-year old is hoping for his 6th French Open title and will now play against Croatian, Antonio Veic in the next round. The new female star, Caroline Garcia the 17 year old unknown, came close to beating one of the greatest stars in recent years, but lost to Russian Maria Sharapova.

Every year for two weeks at the end of May and the beginning of June, The French Open takes place in Paris, France.  The legendary tennis tournament is held at Stade Roland Garros, a top clay court with the French Open the only tournament still held on a clay court.  This prestigious tennis event has the largest broadcasting audience of all tennis events.  The reigning singles champions from the 2010 French Open are Rafael Nadal (men) and Francesca Schiavone (women).
